Am I a candidate?

An eyebrow lift can solveseveral common problems that develop around the foreheaddue to normal aging processes. Good candidates for a brow lift procedure generally have the following characteristics:

  • Sagging of the skin and tissue around the eyebrow
  • A face that looks sad, angry, or aged due to excess skin around the eyebrow
  • Deep lines between the eyes.
  • Excessive wrinkles caused by loose or sagging skin
  • Eyes or eyelids darkened by a drooping eyebrow
  • Realistic expectations of what a brow lift can achieve

Many patients chooseinclude other procedures with the brow lift. For example, brow lift procedures are often performed in conjunction with aeyelid lift(or blepharoplasty) in order to maximize the results of each. During your consultation with Dr. Lawton, he will discuss whether a brow lift is the right approach for the result he is seeking. He should be prepared to discuss his general medical history, including any medications he is currently taking and any previous procedures he has had.

How it works?

Lawton physician chooses the correct brow lift technique based on several factors, including yourforehead height, hairline location, and the required amount of brow lift. The three most common approaches:

endoscopic: In cases where modest changes are desired, the endoscopic approach is usually the ideal technique. The Lawton doctor will make a series of small incisions along the length of the scalp (usually measured in centimeters). Then he will use a small camera called an endoscope to guide the work. This is sometimes called a "closed" brow lift because it is minimally invasive and most of the work is done under the skin.

open brow lift: An endoscopic approach can provide excellent results, but for patients who require more significant work, an open brow lift is often more effective because it allows more access to problem areas. During an open brow lift, an incision is made along the hairline (or, in some cases, along one of the brow creases). The Lawton doctor will then refocus and remove excess skin, tissue, and fat for a more youthful appearance.

limited incision: While a completely open or closed approach is the appropriate course of action for some patients, a compromise is better for others. So-called "limited incision" procedures are perfect for patients who do not need a full open facelift but cannot achieve the desired results with an endoscopic technique. Limited incision procedures essentially combine the two approaches, using an open approach when necessary but a closed technique whenever possible.

Each brow lift incision that Dr. Lawton performs with the open or endoscopic technique will bewell camouflaged.

Brow lift patients can expect to haveslight discomfort, but is usually easily controlled with oral pain relievers. Depending on the brow lift technique used, numbness and itching of the forehead may occur; this will improve over time. Most of the swelling on the forehead disappears inone week, allowing a return to light work and social activity. Vigorous physical activity such as running, frequent bending, sexual intercourse, or any activity that raises blood pressure is not recommended for three weeks. Each patient has a different recovery schedule – it is based on their overall health, the speed at which their body recovers, and the extent of work done on their brow. That is why each patient receivesindividualized recovery instructionsfrom Dr. Lawton prior to the start of the procedure. It is especially important that patients follow these instructions, as they are designed toprotect your results and maximize comfort. In general, patients can expect their recovery to follow approximately this timeline:

First day— Movement around the house is encouraged. With Dr. Lawton's permission, bathing may be permitted, although all patients should exercise care around incision sites. (This can vary depending on the type of incision made.)

First week— Patients can usually return to work after (or during) the first week of recovery, as long as their jobs are not physically demanding. However, patients who are able to take time off work are often encouraged to do so. Also, makeup can be used to help hide bruises, but types of makeup must be approved by Dr. Lawton.

Second week— Most patients can stop taking pain relievers after the second week, allowing them to return to a range of normal activities (such as driving).

Fourth week— Most brow lift patients show almost complete recovery after four weeks. Under Dr. Lawton's instruction, most should be able to gradually begin to exercise and participate in more vigorous activities. The swelling and bruising should be gone by now.

When recovery is complete, patients can enjoy the feelings of youth, vitality, and confidence that come with the brow lift procedure.

I was very satisfied with the result of my breast implant surgery. In 40 years, this was my third implant (replacement) surgery. The original implants and the first reconstruction were performed by another surgeon. This surgery was by far the best result.

Should I get a brow lift or facelift?

Many patients are not sure if aface liftor a brow lift is the best option to achieve the desired results. This confusion makes sense, since the names can obscure the purpose of the procedures. A facelift, for example, could be more accurately called a "face lift.” In most cases,a brow lift addresses problems around the forehead, while a face lift fades the signs of aging around the cheeks and jawline. Determining if you need a brow lift or facelift can be as simple as looking in the mirror to determine the location of your lines, wrinkles, and most of your excess skin. Many patients, however, decide to have a brow lift and face lift. The combination is a great way to get a significant transformation, but still look natural.
